Epidemiology is the study of how a disease is distributed in society and the risk factors that contribute to that disease. By tracking the progression of diseases in many people over many years, researchers have been able to identify those risk factors most responsible for the development and progression of many diseases. In particularly, epidemiologist have conclude that an inactive lifestyle increases the risk for many diseases and that an active lifestyle can prevent, or in some cases reverse, these diseases.
