Discuss the role of slavery in the Caribbean region.

What will be an ideal response?

The vast majority of people residing in the Caribbean today can trace their ancestry back to Africa. Many people were enslaved in the African colonies and brought to the Caribbean colonies by the same colonial power. For example, the British enslaved people in its colonies in Western Africa, then brought them to the Bahamas or Jamaica. The legacy of slavery in the region has translated into island societies where people of African descent comprise the overwhelming majority of the population. The people speak creole dialects of colonial languages and often practice religions (such as voodoo which trace their roots back to Africa.)
