Describe the difference between reliability/precision and evidence of validity based a test’s relations with criterion. Give examples.
What will be an ideal response?
• Reliability/precision refers to the consistency of test results and derives from two factors: reliability/precision within the test (internal consistency) and reliability/precision across time (test–retest reliability). The reliability coefficient provides a quantitative estimate of a test’s consistency of measurement.
• Evidence of validity based on a test’s relations with other variables focuses on whether a test score is predictive of a particular outcome (i.e., a criteria). If the test scores and the criteria are significantly related (correlated), it would enable us to make inferences about meaning of the test scores that are appropriate.
