Explain the importance of normal distribution for parametric statistics.
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: Human services evaluation studies in which most relevant variables are measured at the interval level, the normal distribution is important because this distribution is required as an assumption to be able to use parametric statistics such as the t Tests and Pearson’s Product Moment correlations. As described by Dr. York, most statistics used for human services evaluation are for data that are measured at the interval level. Dr. York specifically states that to employ these statistics, the evaluator must have data that is not only measured at the interval level but also normally distributed. (Examples may be provided form the text or from internship to illustrate the conceptual understanding of the normal distribution and its assumption in the data).
