Analyze the causes for revolution and social unrest in the 1830s
What will be an ideal response?
There were several independence movements throughout Europe during the 1820s, some of which were supported by the Congress of Vienna. Most members weighed in on these matters in the interests of maintaining a balance of power, as they did over the independence movement in Greece, which caused concern that Russia might gain undue influence in eastern Europe. England and Prussia delayed actual intervention with the Ottomans until nearly ten years later. In France in 1830, the policies of Charles X led to the overthrow of the French monarchy when his autocratic tendencies and extreme conservativism gave rise to political unification of a number of disparate factions, which cooperated in overthrowing Charles after suspension of the Chamber of Deputies and the constitution. He was replaced by a more moderate, economically liberal Louis Philippe, who proposed backing away from the conservative model in favor of modern reforms.
