Which is most true, "opposites attract" or "birds of a feather flock together"? Explain your position
What will be an ideal response?
There is a considerable body of social psychology research showing that we are most attracted to those who are similar to us in our behaviors, beliefs, attitudes, and world views (Berscheid & Reis, 1998; McPherson, Smith-Lovin, & Cook, 2001). Though we may have some opposite traits that add balance to our relationships, if they are too extreme then we are more likely to have diverging needs and goals. These can lead us to sacrifice fulfillment of certain needs and interests, to go it alone, or try to get the other person in the relationship to accommodate our needs.
