Describe Mayer's (2009) research on multi-media
What will be an ideal response?
The multimedia principle refers to the power of images. Using an image is more effective than using words alone. The coherence principle emphasizes the importance of only including key points and avoiding irrelevant information or bells and whistles that may distract from learning. The signaling principle refers to the fact that we will remember content better when our attention is drawn to key points via tools such as highlighting, larger fonts, or arrows. Using simple rather complex language is the personalization principle. According to the modality principle, we should either use images and describe the content verbally or if words on the slide are necessary, we shouldn't talk over the slide but rather have the audience read it.
