How does the fossil record support the theory of evolution?
What will be an ideal response?
In a geological formation, the youngest rocks are most often at the surface. Moving deeper through the strata, the rocks become progressively older. Fossils can be dated based on the rock layer in which they are found. Fossils from one layer to the next show gradual changes, becoming more similar to modern species in the younger rocks.
