In the above table we’ve provided the integers 1 to 5 and their squares. The ?1 column contains the differences between successive squares and the ?2 column contains the difference between successive differences (this is called the second difference). You can see that the second difference is always 2. Using this and addition we can build up the following table. Below is the table from 4 onward with the seconds and first differences. We can add the second differences to the N2 column to complete the table.
