There is a wide variety of cultural beliefs regarding the amount of autonomy that a toddler should be allowed. Identify some of these varying beliefs and indicate the possible consequences of each

What will be an ideal response?

If the student applies Erikson's theory correctly here, they would mention that
autonomy is the desired outcome; at the same time the child needs some sense of
shame in order to function within appropriate social boundaries. In cultures where
social needs outweigh the needs of the individual, a sense of social shame is
necessary and will therefore be nurtured. In cultures where individual needs are the
priority, a sense of autonomy will be nurtured. Other factors that influence this will be
the child's own temperament as well as the temperament of the caregiver.
