How can the Glycemic Index be used by persons with diabetes?
What will be an ideal response?
The GI is a rating scale of the likelihood of foods to increase the levels of blood glucose and insulin. Persons with diabetes who eat high glycemic index foods for a meal can eat low glycemic foods later in the day to ensure that blood glucose levels normalize. However, new research indicates that high GI foods do not raise blood glucose levels as rapidly as once believed. The best way to ensure that blood sugar levels are normal is to measure blood glucose levels instead.
