Answer: Gambling, loan sharking, illegal drugs, fraud, disposal of toxic wastes, and extortion. Bookies provide a source of income for organized crime. Loan sharking involves high rates of interest making it difficult for the individual to repay the loan. Illegal drugs are profitable for organized crime. Organized crime may include involvement in a number of different fraudulent schemes. Stocks and Medicare fraud are just two. Organized crime is suspected to be involved in illegal methods of waste disposal but is profitable to organized crime. Organized crime threatens violence to extort money.
