Describe the steps of the process of digestion. What items are absorbed in the small intestines? What items are absorbed in the large intestine?

What will be an ideal response?

Answer: Digestion begins in the mouth. Chewing mixes saliva with food and begins to break it down. The food travels from the mouth to the stomach through the esophagus. The stomach mixes food with chemicals that break it down further. Most digestion and absorption occurs in the small intestine. Water, vitamins, and some minerals are absorbed in the large intestine. The remaining wastes are passed out of the body in stool.
