Explain and provide an example of how a party to a crime may be immune from conviction for their action(s)

What will be an ideal response?

Accomplice liability is not possible when one of the parties to a crime is supposed to be protected by the applicable statute. Examples will vary. However, the best example is statutory rape. Statutory rape laws make it a crime to have sexual intercourse with a minor. So assuming Clint, an 18-year-old, has sex with his 17-year-old girlfriend (and assuming the jurisdiction in which they are located treats 17-year-olds as juveniles), he has committed statutory rape. His girlfriend was a party to the crime, but she was also protected by the statutory rape law. Thus, she cannot be considered an accomplice to her own rape. If she were to be considered an accomplice, it would undermine the purpose of the law.
