What claims differentiate Havelock Ellis from other researchers of his time?
What will be an ideal response?
One of the main characteristics of Ellis’s work is that he took a kind of evolutionary perspective, claiming that behaviors should not be observed as normal or pathological but as purposeful. He was a strong propagator of tolerance, even though he considered many behaviors to be congenital and, therefore, desirable. He also placed strong emphasis on emotional and spiritual aspects of sexuality, claiming that love and courtship are binding forces that enhance the relationship between sexual partners. Similarly to Bloch but even more so, he propagated the liberation of female sexuality, stating that females are even more sexual than men. He even believed that males had more pathological conditions than women, which is a topic tackled in modern research but not one that was very popular in the beginning of 20th century.
