Describe several ways that fruits can aid seed dispersal
What will be an ideal response?
Fruits may aid seed dispersal in many ways. Some fruits split open and release seeds when seeds are
ready to be dispersed. Some have winglike extensions that help the wind to transport seeds away from
the parent plant. Others have barblike projections or sticky surfaces that easily adhere to feathers, fur,
or clothing so that animals will transport them. Still other fruits rely on being eaten, with the seeds
adapted for surviving in the digestive tract of the animal and then being dispersed in the animal's feces.
