Discuss the dangers to a responding officer in confronting someone with bipolar disorder

What will be an ideal response?

Answer: The answer should discuss the symptoms of bipolar disorder, including the possibility of paranoia and delusional thinking, and thus they may perceive those who respond as being dangerous to them, even if the officers are there to help them. Also, in the manic stage their judgment can be significantly impaired and their actions erratic. In the depressive stage they may be suicidal. Their symptoms may be magnified if they cycle rapidly between the two extremes.
