Adrian works for a solo practitioner, so she not only does the paralegal work, she also does the typing. Adrian is a better paralegal than typist and is known to make some errors. One day after taking dictation from her boss, Adrian was typing up the document to be e-mailed. She was to send the e-mail to Mr. Abraham McCormick, a copy to One-State Insurance Company, and a copy to their client, Mr. Charles Endwood. In her haste to get every word down her boss said, Adrian used abbreviations. Her boss said to make sure that this letter was typed without errors and sent as he requested: "No mistakes!" He did not want Mr. McCormick or the insurance company to know that he was sending a copy of this letter to his client. Adrian jotted down "TO," "CC" and "BC." Tell what each abbreviation stands
for and to which recipient each refers.
What will be an ideal response?
If Adrian wrote the abbreviations correctly, this is how the letters should be designated: In the TO: box, Adrian should type in the name of the recipient. In this case it would be Abraham McCormick. Adrian's boss has also asked that she send a copy, or cc (left over from the days of using carbon paper), to the insurance company. She would type in One-State Insurance in the CC: box. And finally, the blind copy to their client should be typed in the BC: box. Additionally, there should a topic or subject in the Subject box identifying the topic of the e-mail. Most important, Adrian should make sure there are no errors in those to whom the e-mail is addressed-typographical, grammatical, or punctuation errors-and that the content of the letter is what her attorney dictated. She must also be sure the document is properly attached.
