Defend the position that all children are educable

What will be an ideal response?

Defend the position that all children are educable.

Answers will vary but should include a point similar to the following: Every child can learn something, even if it is to lean his head against an activator switch to request help or food or attention. A child may not ever learn algebra or write an essay or participate in a science fair, but he or she can certainly learn something to improve his or her quality of life. Teaching students with severe disabilities is difficult and demanding. Sometimes they give little or no apparent response. The teacher must be very sensitive to small changes in behavior. The teacher must be consistent and persistent in designing and implementing strategies to improve learning and behavior. Teachers must work each day at the job of designing, implementing, and evaluating systematic instruction and support. It can be a mistake to expect a miracle. All children are gifts and can be educated to the optimal of their unique capacity.
