Explain the trait of negative emotionality and describe the behaviors related to it and how this relates to criminality.

What will be an ideal response?

Negative emotionality is a trait that refers to the tendency to experience many situations as aversive and to react to them with irritation and anger more readily than with positive affective states. It is strongly related to self-reported and officially recorded criminality “across countries, genders, races, and methods.” People who are low on constraint (they are impulsive) tend to be high on negative emotionality. Low levels of a brain chemical called serotonin underlie both high levels of negative emotionality and impulsivity, and Caspi and his colleagues claim that low serotonin may represent a constitutional predisposition for these traits and thus a general vulnerability to criminality.
