What criteria may be employed by judges to evaluate the effectiveness of their administrators?
What will be an ideal response
Judges must determine whether or not their court administrators are performing competently and effectively. Following are several basic strategies in determining the quality of the work performed by a court administrator:
1 .The judge looks for indications of good management. A well-managed organization will have a number of plans and procedures in place, including personnel policies, recruitment and selection procedures, an orientation program for new employees, performance evaluation procedures, a discipline and grievance process, case management policies, financial controls, and other administrative policies (such as for facilities and records management).
2 .The judge should be receiving regular information. Critically important reports and data on the court's performance, plans, activities, and accomplishments should be provided to the judge on a routine basis. The judge should be notified of the number of case filings, terminations, and pending cases; financial information; staff performance; long- and short-range plans; and other statistical data .
3 .Judges must often ask others about the performance of the administrator. This includes soliciting input from lawyers, other judges, and other court staff members.
