Discuss (a) what treatment fidelity means, and (b) how treatment fidelity is illustrated in a familiar program.
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: Varies. Treatment fidelity refers to the extent that services are provided according to plans, such as, the employment of staff with necessary credentials, the delivery of service according to protocols set forth in the model of the service, and the delivery of the planned units of service. In a tutoring program for at-risk youth, one of the aspects of treatment fidelity would be the employment of tutors who meet the specific qualifications to be a tutor in this program. Another might be the inclusion of an initial discussion period for tutoring sessions where clients reflect upon how well they have used their tutoring. Another might be that there will be offered to clients a series of daily 1-hr tutoring sessions for a period of 6 weeks. The treatment fidelity question would focus on the extent that each of the above conditions was implemented in a given situation.
