Please explain the difference between Community Service Officers (CSOs) and the Police Explorer Program.

What will be an ideal response?

Community Service Officer programs hire college students as nonsworn police department personnel. Responsibilities vary by department, but generally with satisfactory completion of the program the candidate will automatically advance for hiring consideration as a police officer. The Police Explorer program is aimed at youths ages 14–20 and provides, insight, education, training, and hands-on activities related to careers in law enforcement. After completion, individuals may be selected for police academy training. Both are effective recruitment tools for police departments.
