Built-up roof (BUR) felts are available in Type IV and Type VI felts. Why is Type VI felt generally preferred to provide a better BUR membrane?
What will be an ideal response?
Because Type VI felt has a greater tensile strength than Type IV felt, a BUR membrane with Type VI felts is stronger in tension than a BUR membrane with Type IV felts. A membrane with greater tensile strength is better able to resist the tensile stresses caused by the expansion and contraction of membrane, foot traffic, wind uplift, and hail impact.
