Rule 901 of the Federal Rules of Evidence states that the requirement of authentication is satisfied by evidence sufficient to support a finding that the matter in question is what its proponents claim it to be. The rule lists 10 illustrations of how to authenticate a document but notes that they are given by way of illustration. In other words, an attorney is not restricted to any particular method of proving that the document was made for the purpose alleged as long as the jury believes the testimony presented.
