What are the six major expectations that society has of the corrections system? What primary functions are related to each of these expectations?

What will be an ideal response?

The six major expectations of corrections are: 1) enforcement, 2) community protection, 3) restoration, 4) deterrence, 5) rehabilitation, and 6) retribution. Enforcement includes measures such as orders issued by courts or parole boards. Community protection is achieved when an individual on supervision engages in no further criminal behaviors or other harmful activity. Restoration entails measures such as reparations to the community and/or victim, acts such as community service, and the completion of restitution. Deterrence is achieved when a prior offender does not return to criminal behavior. Rehabilitation occurs when an offender experiences genuine reform and is able to create a new life with changed thinking and behavior. Retribution occurs when a crime victim and others observe that the offender has received justice.
