Discuss the primary and secondary curvatures of the vertebral column
What will be an ideal response?
The primary curvatures are concave curvatures present in fetal life. The thoracic and sacral curvatures are known as the primary curvatures that give the vertebral column a C-shape. The secondary curvatures are the convex curvatures that develop after the fetal period. The cervical and lumbar curvatures are known as the secondary curvatures that contribute to the S-shaped vertebral column. As an infant begins to lift the head and crawl, the cervical curvature develops. As a child begins to walk, the lumbar curvature shifts the weight of the body onto the sacrum.
