generation, solar installations, geothermal plants, or biomass energy generation–that replace emissions from polluting sources. Another possibility is to finance carbon removal activities, for example, reforestation. Offsets, or emissions-reduction credits, are credits purchased from other corporations or organizations to mitigate greenhouse gases released into the environment. The funds generated are used to finance undertakings that will result in the reduction of emissions.
