Compare and contrast role relationships and close relationships. Give an example of each.

What will be an ideal response?

Close relationships are enduring and consist of interdependent individuals who feel emotional attachment and irreplaceable to each other. Role relationships are defined by a specific task, and the people who are part of them are interdependent only during that task’s performance. Although close relationships and role relationships can overlap--for instance, coworkers that become friends--this is not usually the case. An example of a close relationship might be a childhood friend with whom you have gone through several hard times and have learned you can trust each other for support. An example of a role relationship is your relationship with the mechanic who is fixing your car; although you might interact a lot while the task is being completed, your relationship is defined by the task.
