Charles (1995) suggested several helpful considerations when identifying research topics. List and discuss two of these.
What will be an ideal response?
(a) personal interest in the topic, meaning a topic that will be rewarding and motivating to see through to completion, (b) an important topic, meaning one that will answer the “So what?” question we ask in evaluating others’ research, (c) the amount of time required to complete the project—will it be possible to conduct the study, given your current day-to-day job demands?, and (d) are there any costs to conducting the study (in particular, will it require considerable amounts of money)?
