Duplication can be advantageous for evolution. While the correctly functioning DNA segment remains intact, duplication provides new copies of genes that can be altered to new functions

Unfortunately, duplication can also result in human genetic disorders. Please provide an example of a human genetic disorder that occurs when certain DNA sequences are duplicated.

Humans suffering from Fragile X syndrome have abnormally long repeats on their X chromosome. This makes the chromosome fragile, and it can easily break, causing mental retardation, hyperactivity, attention deficit, and large ears. Multiple repeats on the autosomal chromosome 9 can also cause mental retardation, squinting eyes, and bulbous nose.

What is the difference between animals that exhibit redial versus bilateral symmetry?

A. Radial symmetry is characterized by the animal having a coelom, whereas bilateral symmetry has no coelom in the animal body. B. Radial symmetry only occurs in round organisms like the sponges, whereas bilateral symmetry is common to all of the more complex animals. C. Animals with radial symmetry demonstrate cephalization, whereas those with bilateral symmetry do not. D. Mirrored arrangement of body components is common with radial symmetry, but not found at all in bilateral symmetry. E. Body components are arranged around a central axis in radial symmetry, but are arranged with a distinct left and right in bilateral symmetry.
