Why was the Dutch example in Indonesia different than imperialism practiced by the French or British in Asia?

What will be an ideal response?

The Dutch had established trade relations much earlier through the Dutch West India Company and therefore did not seek expansion for imperial purposes, as they had already gained the economic relations desired. As such, they did not exercise direct rule in Indonesia, and did not have any agenda other than trade. They did not seek to convert the Muslim population to Christianity, nor did they intend to practice cultural assimilation or impose European civilization standards on the region. The Dutch did establish schools in Indonesia, but only for the purposes of training locals to participate in Dutch business or colonial administration. The Dutch left very little trace in the Indonesian population after the decline of trade relations at the end of the nineteenth century.
