Freedom from hardware compatibility issues has several advantages. One advantage is that it makes disaster recovery easier. If a computer operating as a virtual server host goes down at one site, such as due to a tornado or flood, the virtual servers that it hosts can be exported to other offsite host computers (such as through backups or virtual machine exporting software) with fewer hardware concerns. Your organization might even use offsite virtual servers as standby backup computers, so the organization has very little downtime when a disaster strikes.
Another advantage is that hardware upgrades are smoother. When you upgrade the hardware, such as for more processing power or disk space, it is easier to transfer a virtual server from one computer to another. The operating system in the virtual computer needs little or no reconfiguration.
