Mitosis and meiosis are responsible for cell division and the duplication of our genetic material from one cell to another and from one generation to another. Mitosis is cell division in most cells of the human body and results in forty-six chromosomes in each cell. Meiosis is cell division that forms the gametes each with only twenty-three chromosomes.
