Explain which means of measurement (qualitative or quantitative) is better for each of the following situations: (1) your are testing a hypothesis rather than developing a new one; (2) you are examining a theme where little is known so there are not many theories about it, and (3) you are seeking to identify the subjective meaning of certain ideas in the minds of students.

What will be an ideal response?

Ans: First, you would use quantitative measurement if you are testing a study hypothesis whereas the qualitative means of measurement would be more appropriate for the development of a new one. Second, qualitative measurement is more useful if there is little that is known about a study subject. Third, it would be more fruitful to use qualitative measurement if you are seeking to discover the subjective meaning of concepts because subjective inquiry requires less structure than objective inquiry.
