Describe cuneiform writing in Sumer.
What will be an ideal response?
Cuneiform writing is a straight-line script made with a wedge-shaped stylus cut from reeds. The resulting impressions have a wedge shape; the term cuneiform is derived from the Latin word cuneus, or “wedge.” This writing style was an advancement developed from earlier pictograms in which shapes represented a thing or a concept. It later developed into phonetic writing, in which signs began to represent not things but sounds. This approach liberated the sign from its picture.
