What does halftone printing mean? What are halftone dots?

Halftone printing is the traditional, commercial printing process. Halftone dots are the deposited dots of ink that render a printed image. Like resolution when working with pixels on a screen, the amount of halftone dots deposited over a given area determines the output quality of the printed image.
