Why is informal assessment more prominently used in all areas of writing than any other form of assessment?

What will be an ideal response?

Informal assessments are more primarily used to test writing skills because they may be conducted within the daily classroom activities without the interruption of classroom routines. Also, they are typically completed by the teacher who is naturally more familiar with students in terms of strengths and weaknesses. For handwriting, there are limited diagnostic options available and therefore the most common assessment tools are informal techniques. For spelling, informal approaches to assessment are used because they are of value to the teacher in planning spelling instructional programs. Spelling can be assessed through direct observation and questioning by the teacher. For writing expression, informal assessment approaches are used because formal tools cannot fully evaluate the total scope of written expression.
28. Handwriting instruction is paramount in the twenty-first century
Students with disabilities may encounter problems in mastering handwriting skills and therefore will need to be taught the skills to be successful in school. Cahill (2009) stated that handwriting is closely linked to academic achievement. Difficulties with handwriting at an automatic level may result in students being frustrated with written assignments, failing to complete such assignments, and experiencing lower self-efficacy. It also has a negative impact on how much students write, their writing quality and grades, and the time taken to complete assignments. Handwriting is a basic skill that needs to be systematically taught so that children can learn to use written language to communicate their knowledge and express their ideas. Research in the twenty-first century has shown a positive relationship between handwriting skills and the overall writing process. Therefore handwriting instruction is important to ensure student academic success.
