Answer: Most large-scale strike-slip faults (shear zones) are steep or vertical structures that are relatively straight in map view, although they may contain stepovers or bends where extensional structures or contractional structures form. Some of the largest strike-slip faults are plate boundaries and large strike-slip faults are associated with major earthquakes.
