Compare and contrast Himalayan- and Andean-type orogenies. What will be an ideal response?

Himalayan-type orogenies are caused by continental-continental collision. They commonly
are the site of extreme deformation and metamorphism of rocks and great continental
thickness. Minor igneous activity is usually associated with these orogenies. In contrast,
Andean-type orogenies are the result of oceanic-continental collisions and the formation of
related subduction zones. These orogenic belts are noted for abundant volcanic and igneous
rocks caused by the melting of the subducted plate. Deformation and metamorphism also
accompany this igneous activity.
