Distinguish among terminal end moraine, recessional end moraine, and ground moraine. Relate these moraines to the budget of a glacier
What will be an ideal response?
Any end moraine is a ridge of till that accumulates at the toe of a glacier. The end moraine that forms at the farthest advance of a glacier is the terminal end moraine, whereas the moraines that form as the ice front is retreating and stabilizing along its retreat are called recessional end moraines. Thus, a terminal end moraine forms during the maximum positive budget of a glacier, while recessional end moraines form during negative glacial budgets. A ground moraine is the layer of till deposited as the ice front retreats and melts away.
