Define paedomorphosis and allometric growth, and briefly explain how each contributes to the process of

macroevolution. What will be an ideal response?

Paedomorphosis occurs when juvenile characteristics are retained in the adult stage.
Retention of these features could alter an organism’s behavior and ecological habits resulting
in a new species. Allometric growth occurs in a species when there are changes in development. Alteration of
growth rates results in change in the shape of an organism. These shapes may or may not be
adaptive. If they are adaptive, a new species may be born. If they are not adaptive, extinction
of the species may occur.
