If you had a child, would you encourage him/her to get involved in an organized sports team? Why or why not? Make sure to cite relevant findings noted in your textbook to support your answer

What will be an ideal response?

Sports have the potential to result in both positive and negative outcomes for children. On the negative side, some research indicates that children who engage in these activities have a greater tendency to develop delinquent or antisocial behaviors. On the other hand, the benefits include exercise and health, improvement of motor skills, enhanced self-esteem, learning of initiative, social skills and teamwork, and the development of cognitive skills.
The type of outcome often depends on the types of adults (coaches and managers) who guide the children, and the emphasis they place on winning versus learning to work together and have fun.
