Civil: hold defendant accountable to victim; the victim decides whom to sue and for how much; the victim (plaintiff) is party to the lawsuit and is entitled to important information in case; burden of proof is by a preponderance of the evidence; the jury requires a majority; offender is seen as an equal party; must provide own attorney; both parties must testify; among other differences.
