When is a detail view used, how is the location of the detail view identified on the view from where the detail is taken, and how is the detail view located and titled on the drawing?
What will be an ideal response?
A detail view can be used when part of a view has detail that cannot be clearly dimensioned due to the drawing scale or complexity. To establish a detail view, a thick phantom line circle is placed around the area to be enlarged. This circle is broken at a convenient location and an identification letter is centered in the break. Arrowheads are then placed on the line next to the identification letter. A detail view of the area is then placed in any convenient location in the field of the drawing. Detail views are generally enlarged to scales such as 2:1, 4:1, and 10:1. The view enlargement provides clarity and ease of dimensioning the complex features. The view identification and scale is placed below the enlarged view, such as DETAIL A.
