Why has Southeast Asia emerged as a major center of the global sex trade, and what problems does this cause for the region?

What will be an ideal response?

Southeast Asia developed commercial sex around U.S. military bases during the Cold War. It further expanded into large cities and became part of a larger sex trade with global criminal dimensions and exploitation of under-aged girls. Sex tourism is another component as wealthy travelers from the west came to Thailand with that aspect in mind.
