Why has Southeast Asia emerged as a major center of the global sex trade, and what problems does this cause for the region?

It further expanded into large cities and became part of a larger sex trade with global criminal dimensions and exploitation of under-aged girls. Sex tourism is another component as wealthy travelers from the west came to Thailand with that aspect in mind.
