Explain how scientists can “read” annual rings. Look around and make a list of as many forest products as you can find

What will be an ideal response?

Annual rings are alternating layers of relatively large, soft, light-colored cells produced in the spring and thinner,
denser, darker-colored cells produced in summer. The width of the ring indicates how fast the tree grew during
that season. A scorched ring indicates a fire during the season. Damage of other kinds may be "recorded" in growth
rings.
