Explain what is meant by sampling error.

What will be an ideal response?

The proper definition of sampling error is the uncertainty introduced into a sample statistic by the fact that any given sample is only one of an infinity of samples that could have been drawn from that population. What this means is that as a researcher draws samples from a population that specific sample is only one of an infinite array that might have been selected. Every sample has its own distribution and unique set of descriptive statistics. In any given sample, these statistics might be the same or quite different from the population parameters. Therefore, theoretically it is possible to have an infinite array of samples and their corresponding descriptive statistics. The variation in these statistics is sampling error.
