Describe the naturalistic-observation studies method for studying development.

What will be an ideal response?

Answers will vary. Naturalistic-observation studies are conducted in "the field," that is, in the natural, or real-life, settings in which they happen. In field studies, investigators observe the natural behavior of children in settings such as homes, playgrounds, and classrooms and try not to interfere with it. Researchers may try to "blend into the woodwork" by sitting quietly in the back of a classroom or by observing the class through a one-way mirror.
