Define base level and distinguish between ultimate base level and temporary (local) base level
What will be an ideal response?
Base level is the lowest limit to which a stream can erode. This is ultimately sea level, if/when the stream enters the ocean (ultimate base level). However, temporary or local base levels occur wherever streams do not reach the ocean (internal drainage basins) or make stops along the way to the ocean at lakes or resistant bedrock layers.
